Liverpool forward Luis Diaz set to be out of action until late December due to knee injury
By India Today Web Desk: Liverpool forward Luis Diaz is set to be sidelined until late December after suffering a knee injury during the first half of the Premier League match defeat 2-3 against Arsenal on Sunday.
Although the 25-year-old Diaz doesn't need surgery, the Colombia international is likely to stay on the sidelines for at least 10 matches ahead of the World Cup. The marquee event will take place in Qatar from November 20.
Liverpool would hope that Diaz joins them for a trip to Aston Villa on December 26 following the World Cup. It is to be noted that Colombia failed to qualify for the World Cup.
The Reds defender Trent Alexander-Arnold also suffered ankle damage during the clash against Arsenal, with manager Juergen Klopp saying that both Diaz and Alexander-Arnold's injuries didn't look good.
"Lucho (Diaz) we had to change before (halftime). (It's) something with the knee, not good," Klopp said after the match.
Diaz has featured in 12 matches across all competitions for Liverpool this season so far, scoring four goals and providing three assists. Liverpool are enduring a horrendous season and are in 10th position in the Premier League table after eight matches.
Klopp stated: "(Liverpool) not in the title race. Imagine if I would sit here and think we are nearly there, wait. Look, we saw a lot of things. So we have problems in the moment but we caused the team in form, the leader of the table, massive problems today.
"Even in a really bad situation for us with early changes and stuff like this, we caused them real problems, so that's the truth as well. We have to continue. So, of course, in a situation like ours, we play Arsenal, now we play Rangers obviously and then we play Man City. Is that the perfect opponent for finding confidence back? Probably not. But we will go out there and fight and that's what we have to do and that's what we will do."
